Kabupaten Tangerang, FT | Tepat di hari pahlawan, Presiden Jokowi menganugerahkan gelar Pahlawan Nasional kepada pendiri Tangerang, Raden Aria Wangsakara di Istana Negara.
Raden Aria Wangsakara lahir di Sumedang tahun 1615. Wangsakara bukan hanya tokoh keagamaan dalam Kesultanan Banten pada masanya, tetapi juga tokoh politik dan pemimpin militer yang terus berjuang dalam semangat untuk mengusir penjajah.

Melalui latar belakang perjuangannya semasa Kesultanan Banten semasa Sultan Abul Mufakhir dan Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa, Wangsakara menegaskan perannya sebagai sosok yang turut memainkan peranan penting dalam melawan penjajah (VOC).
Pada 1636, Wangsakara diutus Sultan naik haji. Di Mekah, Wangsakara berhasil memperoleh surat pengakuan Banten oleh Syarif Mekah sebagai kepanjangan tangan dari otoritas politik Turki Utsmani (Ottoman).

Sekembalinya ke Banten, Wangsakara dia diberi gelar Kiai Mas Haji Wasangraja. Tahun 1654 ketika terjadi peperangan di Batavia antara Kesultanan Banten dengan VOC, Raden Aria Wangsakara mewakili Kesultanan Banten sebagai juru runding yang membuahkan kesepakatan penghentian perang.
Daerah yang dikuasai masing-masing tetap dipertahankan. Tahun 1658-1659 ketika terjadi peperangan, Raden Aria Wangsakara mendapat mandat dari Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa untuk memimpin perang melawan VOC yang berujung pada perjanjian damai pada tanggal 5 Juli 1659. Pascaperang, Wangsakara mengubah strategi pertahanan dengan membuat permukiman dan kanal sehingga menjangkau daerah Tangerang pedalaman.

Wangsakara wafat pada tanggal 15 Agustus 1681 dan dimakamkan di Lengkong, Pagedangan, Tangerang atau Taman Makam Pahlawan Kabupaten Tangerang.
